Photo courtesy of Jack James Lois James Smithson was born Aug 19, 1920 in Big Creek Township, Sebastian Co., Ar. to James Grady & Minne Mae Waller Smithson. On Sept 27,1941 L. J. married Edna Ruth Fry. Feb 14, 1942 L. J. registered for the draft in Big Creek, Sebastian Co.Ar. 6 monts later he enlisted in the US Army on Sept 16, 1942. He served with the 202d Antiaircraft Artillery Automatic Bn, advancing to the rank of Tec5 202 AAA AW BN CAC. On 10 September 1943, the 202nd Coast Artillery Regiment was broken up and re-designated as follows-HQ & HQ Battery became HHB, 202nd Antiaircraft Artillery Group. L.J. was discharged from the service Dec 17, 1945, although he served later in the Korean War.
